The 30-Second, 3-Step Mind Experiment

There’s an incredible little trick I have audiences play on themselves when I’m giving talks.

It gets them to realize how their belief structures influence their lives more than their will power, logic, analytical reasoning, or grit.

Try it yourself, it’s super easy (though Step #1 is slightly uncomfortable for a moment, sorry — there’s a reason for it, promise.)

And, no arguing about whether or not it’s “real” or “realistic” or “silly” etc. If you complete the experiment, you’ll get a DEEPLY powerful realization few people in this world ever get to experience.

This is all you do:

(STEP 1)
For 15 seconds, imagine it’s tomorrow — Monday morning — and you wake up to discover you’ve been fired (or if you own your business, you’ve either been kicked out of your role or everyone’s walked out on you). Whatever you imagine, make sure you realize your job, income, and living are gone. Make sure you pay close attention to how you feel and what you’re thinking

(STEP 2)
Next, take deep breath, shake it off, look around the room, smile — just clear out the thoughts and feelings you just experienced.

(STEP 3)
Now, imagine the exact same thing… BUT this time, just for 15 seconds, flex your imagination muscles and pretend you’re “one of those people” who has a deep, DEEP belief that everything always happens for their greatest good, and that you deeply, DEEPLY believe that even if you’ll be temporarily uncomfortable, something EVEN BETTER than what you previously had is going to be coming your way. Again, make sure you pay very close attention to how you feel and what you’re thinking.

That’s it.

That’s the whole experiment.

Less than 1 minute of your day.

But if you ACTUALLY tried this out, you’ll have experienced just how deeply one single belief can impact what you THINK and FEEL about your life, about your future, about your okay-ness in the world.

When people talk about mindset and beliefs, THIS is what they’re talking about.

The trick is, most people don’t know how to impact what they ACTUALLY believe deep in their subconscious, and so they try to change their minds through force.

That rarely works.

(Go ahead — go convince yourself of something you currently, strongly do NOT believe, and let me know how long that takes…)

CHANGING what you believe is a different topic for a different day.

In the meantime, it was my hope that today, this quick experiment illustrated to you just how drastically different your life could be and just how different you could feel if some of your key beliefs were different than the ones you hold on to now.

If you’ve never had this realization before, let the enormity of it sink in for a few days.

This single experiment has completely changed the entire direction of people’s lives.

It can for you, too — if you allow it to.

I secretly wish someone had helped me experience it sooner as it was literally the single most powerful realization I’ve ever had in my entire life.
