How LOTS of Viagra, Porn + Gambling Improved My Business (AKA How to Lose Pretty Much Everything You Built Over 13 Years in the Span of 72 Hours)

In 2015 I watched everything I’d poured into the marketing of my consulting agency get flushed down the toilet over the span of 3 business days.

One day I was running a nationally-ranked agency that was in the top 5 Google results for a massive number of competitive search terms and that received a copious amount of juicy project leads every single month…

… and then suddenly, three days later, I was running a once-successful agency that had been wiped out of Google, almost completely, without a trace.

Suddenly, it was as if my agency no longer existed.

Prospective clients looking for our services could no longer find us.

We might as well have been transported to another planet. All evidence of our online existence was GONE.

HOW IT HAPPENED

It’s actually a long, crazy soap opera of a story filled with midnight phone calls from Las Vegas cell phone numbers, mysterious, forged attorney documents, and bizarre threats to be sued for millions of dollars.

But all you need to know is that a VERY large organization shopped out reputation-destruction work to India and within three days our website had over 7,000 incoming links pointing to us from super sketchy porn sites, Viagra sites, and gambling sites.

Google saw this massive influx of links generated in a short period of time from sketchy sites and swiftly removed us from their search results.

Nearly everything I’d built from the ground up – starting back in 2002 – was gone. Forever. (We tried to rebuild our rankings to very limited success after that — Google doesn’t make it an easy possibility.)

13 years of hard work.

Gone—UNJUSTLY—in 3 days.

Most people would say this is one of the worst possible things that could ever happen to a business.

But here’s the kicker:

When your back’s against the wall, you’re forced to get CREATIVE.

I had to search for solutions, opportunities, and options I NEVER had to consider before.

I was forced to think quickly, differently, and effectively.

So what ended up happening…?

After the attack and our ban from Google, we located an incredible paid-advertising opportunity we never in a million years would have previously considered investing in.

We invested roughly ~$5,000/month for this opportunity (instead of getting our “free” organic leads each month).

And…

Suddenly…

Within a few months…

The projects we were taking on were 5-10x bigger than they had ever been.

Not kidding.

The quality, caliber, and budgets of our projects literally multiplied by a magnitude ranging from five to ten.

We began flourishing beyond what we could have previously imagined back when we thought we were already super successful.

All because “the worst possible thing” happened to us.

All because we lost EVERYTHING we’d worked for over the past 13 years.

In a nutshell:

Losing everything helped us skyrocket forward through a wormhole with speed we never dreamed possible.

Losing everything helped us win.

I invite you to consider this today:

Necessity breeds creativity, possibilities, and solutions you’re NOT considering now.

What might YOU be able to do to create artificial necessity or restraints, and experience what it’s like to suddenly consider possibilities you’ve never before considered?

Hint: some people create artificial constraints with their time, money, or resources to great effect.

Enjoy.
